The Global Network Initiative (GNI) commends the companies that have made public commitments not to respond to the Government of Pakistan’s request for proposals (RFP) to build and implement a new system for Internet blocking and filtering. GNI member Websense was the first company to say it would not respond to this request, and Cisco, Sandvine, Verizon, and McAfee have also made public commitments.
For companies who may still be considering the RFP, GNI is ready to assist with analyzing the potential risks that this business opportunity might pose to the freedom of expression and privacy rights of users. We urge such companies to contact us at [email protected].
