The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is pleased to announce that Verizon Communications (Verizon) has joined the GNI, becoming the first U.S.-based telecommunication company to do so. Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services. It joins over 80 GNI members from around the world who have become part of the multi-stakeholder initiative since its founding.
“Verizon is committed to respecting human rights in the course of our business operations and looks forward to working with our colleagues in the GNI on efforts to assess and address important digital rights issues in a rapidly changing technology ecosystem,” said Verizon’s Global Head, Business and Human Rights, Nicole Karlebach.
Verizon serves customers through two business units: Consumer and Business. The company’s customers range from individual wireless consumers to global multinational enterprises.
“Verizon’s GNI membership is a testament to their commitment to respecting human rights in the ICT sector. We are thrilled to have Verizon join us as we work to promote respect for privacy and free expression in an era of digital transformation,” said GNI Executive Director Judith Lichtenberg.
