“In a moment where technology is reshaping democratic space, speech, and power, GNI’s multistakeholder model is not just relevant – it’s non-negotiable. Having worked across jurisdictions, including the UK, USA, and India, to shape platform governance, strengthen transparency norms, and center rights-respecting tech regulation, I am honoured to join GNI as Policy and Communications Lead,” shares Tewari. “With GNI’s commitment to positively influencing policy around the globe, I am excited to leverage my experience to foster meaningful accountability and strengthen responsible digital governance. I am especially driven by the opportunity to engage with stakeholders and connect insights from across continents to co-create solutions that shape a more equitable digital future.”

Before joining GNI, Shreya Tewari served as Senior Policy Manager at the UK Office of Communications (Ofcom), where she led the development of free expression and privacy provisions under the Online Safety Act, 2023. Previously, she was a Research Fellow at Harvard Law School’s Berkman Klein Center in Boston where she worked on the Lumen Database which tracks global content takedown requests. Tewari brings extensive experience in researching and developing policies on speech-protecting content moderation tools, governance frameworks, patterns in fraudulent content removal, and legislative drafting. Her work has been cited by prominent outlets including The Washington Post, Slate and the BBC.

“We are thrilled to have Shreya join the GNI team,” said Jason Pielemeier, GNI’s Executive Director. “Her experience researching digital rights issues, working on transparency around government demands, and most recently putting novel tech regulation into practice will be extremely valuable to us as we continue to advocate for freedom of expression and privacy globally.”
