The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is pleased to welcome the Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH), Digital Rights Nepal, and Hashtag Generation to its civil society constituency as members.
“We are very pleased to welcome CSOH, DRN, and Hashthag Generation as new NGO members,” said GNI’s Executive Director Jason Pielemeier. “Their deep understanding of the human rights and tech policy landscape across South Asia will reinforce our ability to understand and engage on critical issues.”
The Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and policy organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. whose mission is to advance research, policy, and advocacy to counter hate, violence, extremism, radicalization, and online harms. CSOH works in close connection with vulnerable and marginalized communities in South Asia, the South Asian diaspora, and among Muslim and immigrant communities in North America and Europe. This international reach enables us to study and respond to the transnational dimensions of hate, extremism, and disinformation, ensuring that our research and advocacy remain grounded in both local contexts and global dynamics.
“We’re glad to join GNI and contribute our research on organized hate and online harms to collective efforts advancing transparency, accountability, and human rights. We look forward to collaborating with partners committed to rights-respecting approaches to platform governance,” said Raqib Naik, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH).
Digital Rights Nepal (DRN) is a non-profit organization established in 2020 whose mission is to safeguard digital rights and foster a safe, inclusive digital environment across Nepal.
“Digital Rights Nepal’s membership in the Global Network Initiative marks an important step in our continued engagement on issues of freedom of expression, privacy, and accountability in the digital ecosystem. As the first civil society organization from Nepal to join GNI, we value the opportunity to engage with members and contribute to collective efforts toward rights-respecting technology governance, informed by perspectives from the Global South,” said Santosh Sigdel, Executive Director of Digital Rights Nepal.
Hashtag Generation is a Sri Lanka–based digital rights and technology governance organization working to advance human rights in digital spaces and strengthen the accountability of governments and technology companies for their impacts on freedom of expression, privacy, and equality.
“Hashtag Generation is a youth-led civil society organization founded in 2015, and has dedicatedly contributed to the advancement of human rights in the Sri Lanka digital civic space over a decade. We are a feminist, youth focused movement, and have been functioning as Sri Lanka’s first ever social media monitoring mechanism to address misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech. We are delighted to become a member of the Global Network Initiative (GNI) in 2026, and looking forward to serving communities in Sri Lanka and across South Asia, through the strength of GNI’s global partnership,” said Jerome D. Cooray, Head of Programmes and Operations at Hashtag Generation.
