The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is thrilled to announce that the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) and Susan Ness have joined GNI as members.

“ICNL and former Commissioner Ness each bring stellar reputations and expertise to GNI,” said GNI’s Executive Director, Jason Pielemeier. “We are thrilled to have them join and look forward to deepening our collaboration with them.”

ICNL promotes a legal environment that strengthens civil society and advances the freedoms of association and assembly, philanthropy, and public participation around the world. ICNL works in over a hundred countries with civil society organizations, governments, and the international community to strengthen the legal environment for civil society. ICNL will join GNI’s civil society constituency.

“ICNL has had the pleasure of working with GNI and its members for several years. We are delighted to have joined GNI and we look forward to working together to protect and promote digital rights.”

Susan Ness is a former member of the Federal Communications Commission in the United States, and has over forty years of expertise in digital technology regulatory policy. Susan will join GNI’s academic constituency as an independent expert.

“Having long appreciated the values and mission of GNI, I am honored to join the organization as an individual expert and contribute to its vital work on internet governance.”

GNI has previously collaborated with ICNL as partners on the Freedom Online Coalition’s Advisory Network and as members of the Greater Internet Freedom Project (GIF).
