The Global Network Initiative is pleased to announce new additions to our staff.
In October 2023, GNI’s academic member Konstantinos Komaitis joined the team as a Senior Policy Advisor. Komaitis is a veteran of developing and analyzing internet policy to ensure an open and global internet. He is currently a non-resident fellow with the Democracy + Tech Initiative of the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab; he is also a non-resident fellow and senior researcher for the Lisbon Council.
The GNI also welcomes Min Aung as an Assessment and Accountability Manager. As the GNI’s Assessment & Accountability Manager, Min is responsible for leading the evolution of the GNI framework as well as facilitating the GNI’s unique company assessment process. Before joining GNI, Min led the Sustainability team of a major telecommunications company in Myanmar, developed a community-led human rights impact assessment methodology for a leading digital rights NGO, and led two microfinance institutions in Myanmar.
We’re also excited to welcome Hilary Ross as a Special Projects Advisor. Ross is a technology policy program consultant. She is interested in the governance of emerging technologies, transparency, freedom of expression, privacy and security, information integrity, and the future of news. Previously, she worked in the industry on data transparency and on staff at the Berkman Klein Center, where she maintains an affiliation.
2024 will be a pivotal year for tech and human rights. As we gear up, GNI is extremely pleased to be able to fortify ourselves with these three amazing new hires. Konstantinos brings a wealth of experience and knowledge around the key topics and processes at the center of upcoming UN debates around internet governance and AI. Min’s background working to embed human rights policies at Telenor and his recent work at Ranking Digital Rights make him a perfect fit to lead our efforts to evolve and tailor the GNI assessment process. And Hilary’s experience at the Berkman Klein Center and as a senior manager within a tech company will expand our expertise and capacity to develop new tools and resources that support freedom of expression and privacy. – GNI Executive Director, Jason Pielemeier
