Between October 24 to 26, the Global Network Initiative (GNI) and its membership will convene in Brussels, Belgium for a series of events that will bring together various stakeholders from the realms of human rights, corporate accountability, and multistakeholder collaboration. We will be collaborating with Freedom House on their Freedom of the Net 2023 report launch, engaging with the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) at a B-Tech event on the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, policy coherence, and generative AI, organizing our widely anticipated GNI Annual Learning Forum, and holding our Q3 GNI Board meeting.
EVENT 1 – AI, Human Rights, and the Evolving Regulatory Environment
We will be collaborating with B-Tech to host a discussion on policy coherence and generative AI on Tuesday, October 24th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm CET. This is an invite-only event.
EVENT 2 – Freedom of the Net 2023: THE REPRESSIVE POWER OF AI
On Tuesday 24th October, GNI, in collaboration with Freedom House, will celebrate the launch of Freedom on the Net 2023 report, which is an annual survey and analysis of global internet freedom conducted by Freedom House. The report is a key resource for policymakers, tech companies, academics, civil society groups, and individuals dedicated to protecting and expanding internet freedoms. The launch will be followed by a reception.
EVENT 3 – Annual Learning Forum: Improvement Over Time: Lessons from 15 Years of Accountability in Tech
The following day, on the 25th, GNI will host its flagship public Annual Learning Forum (ALF) followed by a reception. The ALF is a vital platform for fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange, and this year it will address the evolving governance of technology. Through tabletop exercises and two expert-led panels, attendees will compare GNI’s human rights-focused assessment process with the risk assessments and due diligence mandated by European laws like the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), as well as explore the global impact of these regulations. Stay tuned for a full agenda and line-up of speakers for the event.
