Global Network Initiative at IGF 2025 in Norway

The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is thrilled to share information about our participation in and around the 20th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2025, to be held in Lillestrøm, Norway, from June 23 to June 27, 2025.

At IGF 2025, GNI will organize and participate in a range of sessions that focus on safeguarding freedom of expression and privacy rights, promoting responsible tech governance, and reinforcing multistakeholder collaboration. These sessions will bring together leading voices from civil society, the tech sector, government, and academia to address some of today’s most pressing challenges in the digital ecosystem. GNI will also be using the opportunity to host its Q2 Board Meeting at GNI member Telenor’s headquarters in Fornebu, Norway, on June 23, 2025.

Please find below a list of sessions GNI will be hosting/co-hosting at this year’s Internet Governance Forum:

June 23, 2025

June 24, 2025

  • GNI Executive Director Jason Pielemeier will speak at an IGF workshop on Multistakeholder Cooperation in an Era of Increased Protectionism, organized by the US Council on International Business, 13:30–14:30 CEST
  • GNI will co-organize an invite-only meeting on The Role of Investors in Tech Governance, in collaboration with the Council on Ethics for the Swedish National Pension Funds, on behalf of the Big Tech & Human Rights Investor Collaboration, 16:00–17:00 CEST

June 25, 2025

  • GNI will co-organize an invite-only convening between private sector and civil society representatives on The Future of the UN Cybercrime Convention, together with the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Global Partners Digital, 16:30-17:30 CEST

June 26, 2025

In addition, GNI staff will be helping to organize and participate in the various side-events, including the Freedom Online Coalition’s Strategy & Coordination Meeting, and several meetings focused on the World Summit on the Information Society 20-year review

These sessions underscore GNI’s commitment to promoting freedom of expression and privacy in the technology sector and the team is looking forward to exchanging ideas with other participating organisations.
