The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is excited to announce that 7amleh – The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media has joined GNI as a civil society member.

7amleh is a non-profit organization that aims to create a safe, fair, and free digital space through building the capacity of civil society organizations in digital advocacy, digital safety and activism, including monitoring and documenting digital rights violations against Palestinians carried out by various actors. 7amleh’s work involves preparing and publishing studies, reports and papers regarding digital policies and regulations that affect Palestinian digital rights, as well as organizing and leading evidence-based, multi-layered advocacy campaigns on the local, regional and international level to hold governments and tech companies accountable and push them to comply with international human rights law as well as human rights and business principles. 7amleh was awarded the Index on Censorship Freedom of Expression Award in 2020.

“GNI is a leading voice in the effort to protect freedom of expression and privacy among other digital rights globally, which intersects with 7amleh’s mission in creating a free, fair, and safe digital space for everyone,” said Nadim Nashif, Founder and General Director of 7amleh. “We are excited to join the network and contribute to GNI’s important work and look forward to collaborating with the network members.”

“7amleh has demonstrated an ability to advocate for digital rights in complex situations,” said Jason Pielemeier, GNI’s Executive Director. “We look forward to integrating their insight and perspective into our collective work in support of freedom of expression and privacy.”
